It all started in 1990 with a dream, a whole lot of grit, and a 400-square-foot shop in Snowmass Village. No fancy storefront, no big crew, just a passion for Western craftsmanship and a whole lotta hustle. Fast-forward a few decades, and Kemo Sabe has grown into the most iconic Western outfitter in the world.

1990
Snowmass Village, Colorado.
Tom and Nancy Yoder open the first Kemo Sabe location in Snowmass Village, Colorado.
1995
Grit Is Born
Grit is born when previous owner, Tom Yoder, first begins distressing hats in the Aspen store.
2004
Store # 2 - Vail, Colorado
Kemo Sabe makes the leap to open a second store in Vail, Colorado.
2013
Store #3 - Las Vegas, Nevada
Marks the year of Kemo Sabe's third location opening in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2015
Kemo Sabe Grit Hat Ranch
Kemo Sabe opens their very own hat ranch facility in Basalt, Colorado. Kemo Sabe begins producing their own line of hats known as Kemo Sabe Grit.
2019
Gainesville, Texas
The hat ranch facility expands to Gainesville and brings their very own buckle program in house. Kemo Sabe Grit buckles are designed and hand engraved by silversmiths with years of engraving experience. Interested in designing a custom, hand-engraved, sterling silver buckle or adding a personalized engraving to an existing buckle? Kemo Sabe's team of silversmiths are ready to assist you with the design process from start to finish.
2020
New Reins, Same Grit
Wendy Kunkle and her brother Bobby take the reins from Nancy and Tom Yoder, ushering in a bold new chapter. With Wendy leading a powerhouse women-led team, Kemo Sabe doubles down on its mission to make everyone feel important. More heart, more hustle, more head-turning style — the grit never left, but now it’s got a fresh new swagger.
2021
El Paso, Texas
Kemo Sabe acquires a boot company in El Paso, Texas, and begins designing and producing their own line of boots known as Kemo Sabe Grit.
2022
Store #4 - Jackson, Wyoming
2022 was another impressive year for Kemo Sabe opening their fourth location in Jackson, Wyoming.

Shortly after, in December of 2022 Kemo Sabe opens their fifth location in Park City, Utah.
